hearing constituents
“Thank you…. I think your words may have won over several of your colleagues in obtaining a unanimous vote against the proposal. We greatly appreciate you representing our interests…”
- Aaron Armstrong, Mee-Kwon Meadows organizer
I work for the people of Ozaukee County, and particularly, the people of northwest Mequon. I have no greater responsibility than looking out for their county-based interests. Sometimes that means agreeing with them and mobilizing a county response. Sometimes that means explaining why their concern may be misplaced. It always means listening for understanding, before adopting a position.
I take pride in having responded directly to every single constituent who contacted me with a concern. You may not always agree with me, but I will listen for understanding, then upon deciding, you will know where I stand, and why. Here are some of the issues I’ve worked on with constituents in just the past couple of years…
Establishment of a solar farm in Mee-Kwon Park. When I became aware of the early planning for a solar farm in this county park, I notified residents, sought their perspective, rallied support with the board to stop this project that would have put an industrial solar array in a park just beyond their backyard.
Housing development at a higher density than local zoning allowed. City officials attempted to squeeze more houses into a planned development than zoning permitted by using an inappropriate work-around. Upon learning of the plan, I informed and rallied neighbors to prevent the inappropriate development.
Inappropriate location of a radio tower. An issue of fundamental [un]fairness arose when county staff proposed putting a radio tower on county land in such a way that it would negatively impact an neighboring landowner. With effort, the project was stopped in committee, and the project modified until it was acceptable to neighbors.
A stream restoration project. When a stream restoration project had not been fully vetted with neighbors, I ensured public outreach was expanded, and ensured the project appropriately addressed those concerns.
I am honored to represent you and recognize I serve at your pleasure.
